folks, i found a swinging drawbar kit at kraft implement here in wisconsin. i don't know if the hole in the bar will accept a ball for my hitched trailer. does anyone have a hole size and what about the width of the bar itself? also, if i want to use my plow, will i have to take the drawbar off or won't it be in the way?

thanks

award..... ...trailer ball shanks come in differnet diamaters, 3/4 & 1 are most common altho you can gitt a 2-5/16 ball rated for 10,000lbs with 1-1/4 shank. The standard swinging drawbar is 1 x 2. Will you haffta remove the drawbar iff'n you plow? Dunno, I haffa pull mine iff'n I brushhog. The drawbar is just held in place with 1-PIN held by a linch-pin, and takes 15-secs to remove. Simple, eh? ..... ..respectfully, Dell

I have one identical to your pic, purchased from this site. If it were to be any simpler, you would have to have two N's, one with the drawbar, and one w/o.

I very rarely use a ball hitch with anything - even my truck - but it does fit nicely in the drawbar on my Jubilee. For plowing, just swing it to the far left.

a....what about something home-made? Here's one I made that's easy to remove & is generally out of the way:

The hook can be changed out for the ball mount. You asked about whether your ball would fit the swinging drawbar....they make several size shanks & bushings for the balls, so you should have no trouble finding one to fit the store-bought drawbar.

ok guys, i certainly appreciate it. since i don't work in fabrication anymore and by the time i would have to get all the parts and work them i may as well just buy the setup. quick removal may be necassary for plowing/cultivating/discing then back to pulling the wood trailer.

and i called the local fleet farm to see if they had those tire chains they talked about in march. well the $125 price they quoted me at the time turns out to be EACH. local county won't sell used tire chains to private owners due to liability reasons, but they used to.

dell, btw, i haven't posted in a year i guess but that 49 8n that i had the motor rebuilt in, well, that sucker is sure running nice. never adjusted the lifters but no clicking either. i think i may go to 15w40 oil for summer use. i won't say "synthetic" to you unless you heard otherwise from the last time we talked. but i am still thinking about it and it should be nice and broke in now.

here is a photo of the town farm heritage days from last summer. notice the tractor isn't a mosquito duster anymore? that's me and my youngest daughter in the parade. all the bigshots have the fancy tractors you know. i only get what i need and i am very happy to be a ford 8n owner. best to all.

ok, i will order the setup from this site since it is cheaper and only $10 shipping.

i wonder if the draw bar kit is heat treated or not and if it is even necassary.
