Can't get any spark; new battery, good voltage to the coil, coil checks OK, but I replaced with new just in case; new points, condenser, rotor, cap. Checked continuity of all spark plug wires=OK. Can't get a spark to jump from SP wire to ground. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I recently tuned up my 49 which is a front mount. When I put the distributor back in I didn't get the gasket just right between the coil and the distributor. The result was that the wire for the spark coming out of the bottom of the coil to the distributor did not make up and I had no spark at all. I took it back off and double checked the cork gasket and made sure it was just right and had spark.

Don't know if your's is a front mount but if it is, you might check into this if you had the coil off.

I'll second this check, but for a slightly different reason. I recently tuned up and found I was missing the cork gasket. Consequently, the spring that makes the connection was compressed more than usual. After I put in the gasket, I didn't have good contact. I had to "stretch" the spring slightly.

If you have a sidemount, the only obvious thing you haven't mentioned is the connection where the primary wire comes into the distributor base. The insulator around that post sometimes deteriorates and causes the primary to ground out. It can be replaced easily. I used a nylon bushing fromthe hardware store on mine.

Don't know if you have a front or side, but on the front mount there are some connections inside that can go flaky. You obviously have some electrical knowledge, so you may want to pull the distrubutor (arghh!) and begin checking for a ground with an ohmmeter. Try the archive search on this one as well, as there have been posts. Sometimes the contact between the dist and the coil doesn't make. Sometimes there's little pieces of insulation out of place.

You hit all the logical - first being power to the coil and the components, although it's not to say you couldn't have picked up a bad condensor.

Can't give any more specifics, but some good logical "sluething" should point you in the right direction.
