I just picked up a new up dated lift piston, gaskets and seal. I know both the "O" ring and the wiper go in the groove on the piston but which goes towards the front and which goes toward the rear.I know this information is somewhere in the archives, but I can't seem to find it. Thanks for any help.

If you have the old leather backup washer you might want to look into getting one of the new neoprene washers instead. I rebuilt my ram recently and the newly designed washer is soooo much easier to install and will probably work better too. Thats all my Newholland dealer is selling now and the last time I talked to the parts manager he was (tongue in cheek) lamenting the fact that he was selling half as many washers now.
Good luck.
Kent

Thanks Kent, I really don't know which washer I have. I got the Kit that has the gaskets and seals from New Holland, so it may be the neoprene one, I'll check when I get home.

The leather backup washer is behind the o-ring, such that it is furthest from the top of the piston. Or put another way the leather backup washer is further away from the inlet to the cylinder and closet to the ball-ended connecting rod. Hope that explains it.
Eric
P.S. Soak washer in hydro oil overnight and ease onto piston
