This weekend I took the top cover off my 8N to replace the leaking ram cylinder. After looking it over I found that I need to replace the main shaft bushings and the cam follower. I finaly got one of the lift arms off and the shaft out of the housing but, the other lift arm refuses to come off. I've used heat, penetrating oil and all I've suceeded in doing is break my puller. Any tricks for getting this off? Also the yoke is frozen on the main spring plunger. I'm running out of ideas and penetrating oil. Is the control arm supposed to be curved? Mine has quite a bend in it and the book shows it to be straight. Thanks for any input.

Some of this was already said, so, on the yoke, try a different penetrant. I found the ones with teflon to be orders of magnitude better than the older liquid wrench in a can stuff. I also slipped a bar through the yoke, like a big "T" and with a little heat and penentrant it twisted off. And I also stood up the cover with the yoke up and filled up the threaded hole, through the yoke, and let it sit. As far as the lift arms go, I would suggest using or borrowing a large hydraulic press, before heating it too much. Both my arms were frozen and it took $40 and 28 tons on a 30 ton press, as well as a penetrant, to get them off. I also used plenty of antiseize on reassembly and keep the crack between the lift cover and the lift arms greased to prevent water infiltration and rust.

BB, I have used Knock'er Loose and heat to free up yokes in the past year. I spray it in the hole for the pin so it runs down on the threads and let it sit for a while. Then apply heat and some more Knock'er Loose and have had good results breaking the yoke loose. I use a solid, round piece of steel about a foot long, and this breaks it loose OK for me. Sometimes you have to work it back and forth and spray more on the threads, but haven't had one yet fail to come loose. Hope this helps. I found Knock'er Loose at my NAPA dealer. Good luck!!!
