Trying to find any information on a Firestone Fairlawn Estate Tractor sold by Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., Akron,OH I recently got this tractor and have never seen one before. Anybody know anything about it. Guessing it was manufacured around 1969 using engine code and and tractor code numbers.

Dont know. My Dad bought a Firestone riding mower back in the '60s. Only thing I know to get replacements parts for is the engine. It has a Briggs and Stratton 4hp front mount engine. With a pull start. 1 gear forward and 1 in reverse, with neutral. I think it is a 24" deck. The steering is done by the use of a handle bar (not steering wheel). Front tires are all steel (no flat tires). The front tire bolt broke years ago, so it has been stored in the garage for many years. Just a couple of years ago he had a machine shop make the tire bolt (very weird size and shape) and installed it. But it wont even start. Probably needs a engine rebuild. It has a very bad turning radius. I have been searching for other parts and info, but came up with nothing. Good luck.

I have a model 8D-494, 12 HP Fairlawn tractor with a 42" belly deck. It was manufactured for Firestone by MTD. Its MTD model is 148-860. It was my fathers and he bought it used in the early 70's. I believe it was manufactured in the late 60's. It has a Briggs and Stratton engine and up until last week was still cutting grass. Right now, it has a broken clutch pressure plate and I am in the process of trying to get some parts for it. Parts are very hard to find as I have found out over the past 30 years or so. Hopefully I can either find a part or have my old one repaired. I shudder to think how many acres of grass this old workhorse has layed down. Dad cut about 3 acres with it for over 25 years. He even rolled it over a couple of time, trying to cut on too steep of a bank. Nice to share this - makes me reflect on Dad. He's been gone since 1999 - Sure do miss him.
