This is not a tractor but a tubing gate, painted, and is little rusty. Do I need to prime this or just paint with Aluminum paint. I know if it is regular paint, it would have to be primed.

Thanks!

Bob

i'd wire brush the rust off at the very least. see what primer the aluminum paint recomends as a base coat. if its a rust-olem aluminum paint, they have a heavy rust primer and a new metal primer available. i agree with circus that the aluminum paint may not be the best choice for a gate as it is handled quite a bit. then too if there is livestock they may be prone to licking the aluminum. try an alyky paint in a light gray.

Glennster, that is good suggestion. I was thinking aluminum because I need to repaint my propane tank, but a regular metal paint would be better. The horses chew on everything. Think I will go the alky route with a primer. Have two of these gates to do. 2 inch tubing that were just painted and not a very good paint job either. Thanks!

Painting anything that's rusty wont last. Aluminum paint is a strange animal. Every time you grab it you'll have silver hands.
