Ford script

I painted my NAA. The ford script on the fenders and hood is now gray. I tried to paint it red free hand, after 2 or 3 letters I wiped it off. What does anyone else do. A couple years ago I bought stick on ford letters for my 9N but there different.

What I did on my old 640 was alot of work but it ended up nice. I painted the logo's with 4 coats of red and let that dry for several days. THEN, I painted the "grey" over the entire hood or fender, 3 coats, and let that dry for a few days. I carefully "wet" sanded the grey off the letters exposing the red. It takes time, but you will like the results.

Hi Tim;

I've tried several different things. I made stencils out of frisket paper and had stencils made out of vinyl. Both were very diffcult to apply. I also applied a sheet of frisket paper and traced around the letters and cut them out while still on the tractor. This worked, but the paint bled on the edges and I did not care for the looks. You have to be careful not to press too hard and go into the existing paint. Some guys have had success with these techniques. There is a tape you can get at auto paint shops that will prevent the bleeding, but it's a lot of work to tape off those letters. I have a friend who is an artist and she's going to free hand them for me. You probably have an artist in your area that will do it for you. I do like Lumpy's suggestion though. You'd just have to be very careful you don't sand through.

Thanks guys for the replies. I called external_link and they said they have decals that match the lettering we shall see. They said thats what they do. This isn't a show tractor but I think the red lettering on the hood and fenders looks good.

I also have an NAA that will be painted in the future. My plan was to use one of those rubber ink rollers that printing shops use to spread ink on the dies, only rolling it in red paint instead, then firmly rolling it over the scripting. Any thoughts on this? Bad idea?

Bill, I thought about a roller of some kind but never tried it..I think it will be tough to get a sharp line. I have a couple old fenders, if I find the right kind of roller I'll try it on them.

Just painted a 8n fender and had to deal with the same thing. The stickers wouldn't stay on for me. The edges kept peeling up. I found a local sign painter and she hand painted the letters on the fender and they look great. Took all of an hour or two and she was done. If you can find somebody that paints signs I would go that route.
