Painting for beginners

Anyone know of a good website that shows a step by step guild for beginners, on how to paint tractor?

Thanks

Don't know any websites, but in older posts they mention there are books. When I started painting I didn't read any books and learned by trial and error.

Some helpful tips:
1. 95% of the paint job will be based on prep.
2. Use good paint - you went to all that work to make the tractor run right and look good, don't waste it with $20 a gallon paint.
3. Whatever paint you use make sure to read the tech sheets. They will be the key to making any job come out right.
4. Practice on an old piece of sheet metal (or even cardboard) to get an idea on how the paint runs, sprays, lays down.
5. Expect to get a few runs and have to sand them down and reshoot. The first tractor I did had 5-6 coats of color on the hood because I kept getting runs.
6. To eliminate problems stay in one product line. Don't be mixing primer from here and paint from there. If you were a professional I would say go for it, but no point in asking for trouble.
7. If you are using a paint with ISOs (read older posts) make sure to use a supplied air system.
8. Make sure to clean the metal (if going over older paint rough it up) with a wax and degreaser. Paint doesn't stick to shiny/slick surfaces worth a darn. Bare metal is best.
9. Enjoy. Everything you do can be undone and redone.
10. Post questions here and you will get a response from somebody.

Just my 2 cent worth. I prefer automotive grades, cuz you can usually shoot them and touch in 30 minutes or so. Keeps the flying critters from gathering too much. Use a good primer, I prefer epoxy based, for it sticks to almost anything. I agree with following directions, and if you use a good paint, use the right reducer for the temperature you are shooting. Always keep your air dry. The harder you work, the better it comes out. Good luck!

Got to youtube and type into the search box (spray paint car) and you will get many short videos that will give tips that can be helpful in technique. Not sure that is what your after but a couple of guys there with steady smooth hands.

Do a search of the web for videos or DVD's. Check out Eastwood's, that sell automotive paints, restoration goods, equipment and a DVD on how to paint.
