What paint to you guys use on tractors. Automotive paint or dealer paint from Case IH ,and if you buy automotive paint is the industrial paint the same. The tractor is a 1938 14 farmall. But the automotive paint is 300 dollars a gal .

dealer paint is not very durable. automotive paint is. dupont DIC is a form of imron, about 150.00 a gallon and VERY DURABLE. be careful when spraying, very hazardout to your health, wear a top quality respirator and the overspray sticks to everything

IH 2150 is an acrylic modified alkyd enamel containing UV inhibitors. I have not used it, most people that have seem to like it. It is not the exact color for the F14. That is IH 50 not sold by the dealer but can be mixed. All automotive paint is not 300/gallon, more like half that. I use PPG Omni in base/clear. Your best bet is probably PPG Omni in the IH 50 color which is 70019/or DuPont Nason which is 7410. You can get it in either acrylic enamel or acrylic urethane which must have hardener. With hardener you should us a supplied air system to protect your lungs, which will cost more than the paint. If you have not painted before, perhaps you should use the 2150 sold by CaseIH. I have the proper protection and use Omni base/clear acrylic urethane. I have not used industrial paint-- from what I have read it is durable but does not have the gloss of automotive paint. I said automotive paint itself does not cost $300/gallon, but if you want a really good job and use the proper primers and surfacers, it will be more than $300.

cnks...I was thinking that PPG 70019 was the IH50 equivalent. You mentioned PPG 70093, please correct me if I"m wrong. I hope I"m not using the wrong color.

You are correct, I edited the post to 70019, did that at least once before too, brain is dying.

You could use automotive Limco paint single stage really durable product. Not expensive 175-250 a gallon with hardner usally. For extra 150.00 get some limco clear if you really want to make it pop. I been spraying cars for a long time PPG,DuPont, Nexa auto color, RM all great products but can be confuseing and can be hard to spray if you havent before. Limco is just really easy to spray and really durable.

Paint is a commodity that follows the rule " you get what you pay for" cheap paint is....cheap, spend the money on high end paint and you"ll get the attributes that come with it spend the money for DuPont Industrial coating and you"d be able to leave it out in the rain for 10 years and it"ll still look like new. recognize the bigger manufacturers have all the qualities from alkyd to urethane and you have to choose what fits your budget and needs
