I am repainting a 1946 Farmall B and CNKS suggested a couple months ago on this forum that the correct paint is IH 50 and recommeded PPG 70019 or Dupont 7410. I am getting close to ready to paint but have a concern about the color before I buy it. I have seen some tractors at shows that have an orang tint to the color. Is IH50 a more orange color that IH2150? If so, I don"t want to use it. I am more interested in getting the tractor to look how I want it than have it look origional. Also, will the MP170 stick to the small amount of old paint that I can"t remove? Thanks for your input.

I shot my M with PPG DCC Concept last summer.. it was one of these 2 paint mix codes... It looks pretty dog gone red to me in the sun... MAYBE a hint of orange.. you be the judge. She isn't quite "finished" in the photo...

I shot the paint, 3 coats, over 3 coats of DPLP grey epoxy primer, which really brightens the color coat up... all applied on a sandblasted chassis. Mixed and Reduced per PPG product sheets.

I will be at the shop this weekend and i'll grab the mix code off of the quart i have left over. which one it is eludes me at this specific moment... It is one of these 2.. i've shot 4 tractors with the DCC thus far... Primer color does make a difference...

I have never seen IH 50 (since the 50's), or if I did I didn't know I was looking at it. PPG's 2150 equivalent 71310 has a definite orange tint to it, so much that I wonder if my dealer is not mixing it right -- I am thinking of switching to DuPont, to see if it is also orange, If so I will assume it correct. I have heard that Case-IH 2150 either has or doesn't have the orange tint, depending on who I ask. Not many tractors around here to look at. If 70019 is more orange than 71310, I might as well buy Allis paint (I like the Allis color, just not on Farmalls). MP 170 will stick if the old paint is stuck good. I usually get 99% of mine off. What I leave on is stuck pretty good. Sorry I don't have more information.
