Hi Jossette,

I don't know anything about MM colors but I'll offer some limited information. The code number listed over on the left at this site for a MM Prairie Gold is 006 Dulux by DuPont. Dulux is an old tradename used by DuPont for their popular and widely used alkyd enamel paint. It was used as an original paint by many OEMs - both tractors and automobiles in the 40s and 50s. As far as I know, it is no longer marketed by DuPont. Many of the older Dulux numbers never got converted over to equivalents in modern paint chemistry, such as the acrylic enamels and more recently, urethanes. That older paint chemistry (alkyd enamel) is no longer used in automobile refinishing. I did check out that 006 number though at the DuPont website. It is still a valid number but only in certain chemistries. You should be able to get it in DuPont's Centari acrylic enamel ($$$) or NASON (DuPont's "economy" line) Fast-Dry acrylic enamel in DuPont's automotive lines or DuPont's Tufcote 3.5 HG-D acrylic modified alkyd enamel in DuPont's industrial line of paints. The Tufcote product is not recommended for "prolonged exterior exposure - will chalk". There are some other chemistries (urethanes) in the NASON line for the 006 code but they require an isocyanate-containing additive that requires specialized fresh air breathing equipment ($$$) to use safely. The 006 code is not currently listed as a "prairie gold" - just "gold" and is not identified with MM tractors or equipment at all. I have no idea if it is the correct color for you. You might want to ask your question over on the MM forum to find someone knowledgeable in old MM colors.

Please note that PPG lists two different colors for MM prairie gold - a prairie gold and a prairie gold #2. There apparently was both an early shade and a later shade of the same basic color. Again, I have no idea when they were used or which might be correct for you. Also try asking on the MM forum.

I don't know if there are any current dealers in MM equipment and parts, but if there are, that could also be a potential source for the correct shade of paint.

Just keep in mind that the $33 paint is alkyd enamel and will fade rather rapidly. See if the can says "acrylic modified". The Case-IH acrylic modified is decent paint, better than straight alkyd enamel, contains UV inhibitors to reduce fading. Otherwise, to keep the cost down, use PPG Omni, or DuPont Nason acrylic enamel as noted in the above posts. You can also keep alkyd enamel waxed, after a few months of curing.
