I have a WD 45 I'm wanting to turn into a puller. Looking for any advice on a good engine/drivetrain combination or modifications before I do a complete rebuild. I have a wc, wd, & wd45. I see alot of people pulling with wc's & 45 engine. Is there a drivetrain advantage with the wc? Or should I stick with the whole wd45 package.

The WC is lighter. Other than that I don't see a real advantage. I prefer starting with a WD. They can be made just as light and you already have foot brakes. If this is going to be a div II type tractor alot of places won't let you run a 45 block in a WC. If you are going Div III or higher it is fine or a D-17 block either one. Keep in mind a WC and a WD both have a higher first gear than a WD-45. It really all depends on what classes you are going to build it for.

Hey Ken, Does the UGLY STICK live yet? If not why doncha build some more weight brackets for your WD so you can pull 6500/7500 with the REAL (green) tractors!! :-) See ya saturday, Mike

wc is the best in my opinion you dont have to worry about the hand clutch to loose pwr from slipping clutch a hand clutch on 45 also a stock 45 en will not win many pulls you need a minimum of 4.125 bore and wd only pistons for added compression with awd45 crank or stroker crank big money ad17 carb and manifold , gov spring d17 or 175 12v ignition electronic to give hot spark and for starting with added compression tires 14 -9 or 15-5 38 in rims stock tires not very competive unless your pulling around no hot shots good 3 angle valve job and chevy 396 valves
