Higher-octane fuel will do you no good and gain you no horsepower without the compression boost to require it. In fact, high-octane fuels can actually cost horsepower on a stock or mild engine, as the higher octane ratings make them harder to ignite. Good pump gas of 87-91 octane is MORE than enough for a gas 3020. If your '65 still has the oil-bath air cleaner, which I believe it would, airflow potential can be gained by installing an appropriately-sized dry air filter set-up in place of the oil-bath. I later 3020 paper element filter housing may bolt in, I can't say for sure. If you want to keep the oil-bath and optimize its performance, check the adapter on top of the air cleaner housing. It is located between the intake pipe and housing. There's a screen in there that can get plugged up after years of dirt and dust and can decrease airflow quite a bit. As far as spark, the easiest upgrade is an electronic ignition pickup in place of the stock points. Make sure to get the proper polarity for your tractor, either positive-ground or negative-ground. I won't say that an electronic seet-up will increase horsepower, but starting, throttle response and fuel economy will be improved. And you can run a wider plug gap for a hotter spark. Beyond that, getting the stock distributor rebuilt, blueprinted and recurved can increase performance quite a bit. As will solid-core wires. As far as the blower, are you referring to a turbo set-up as was offered for the diesels? One could probably be installed, but it will take some work to make it all function correctly. The main change that will need to be made will be to the carburetor, as pressurizing it with forced-induction will throw all of the factory calibrations off, and it will need to be modified in order to be operated "under pressure". You might also need to upgrade the fuel pump, as the stock units don't provide much pressure. What exactly are you looking to do with this 3020?

I am a tractor puller from Mass and here we pull on concrete pads. We have three attempts to pull a flat stone boat 6 feet. Here we grind the tires bald for maximum surface area and therefore traction. The 3020 would pull in the 9000 and the 11000 classes and would pull against 4020s and ford 8000s and weights can reach 20000+ of dead weight on the boat. I was interested to see if there was a easy way to get her competing. No body dirt pulls around here but I see old J.D model A with 65 horse for sale on this site for 4000$ How do they do that and am I better off getting an old one and just keep the 3020 cherry?

I certainly wouldn't think of taking any decent tractor of any color pulling deadweight on a concrete slab, I respect good tractors too much to subject them to that. Tractors were designed to work on all types of soil and turf....not concrete....unless they have hard rubber tires like forklifts have that work on hard surfaces. Give your tractor a break...don't risk breaking it on hard surfaces. JMHO, ya understand.

If you are pulling that kind of weight get a 6030.
