Did anybody else at Columbus see the 88 let go about half track looked like it was going to be hard on the guy's wallet not to mention his back or neck after he got hit by Dewey's sled that didn't stop quite as fast as he did?

I have a question here. Are there any safety regulations that govern the building and pulling of these highly modified tractors? It seems to me that there ought to be, considering two catastrophic failures in a fairly short amount of time (the G in Lincoln and now this Oliver). Does a puller or spectator have to be injured or killed before something is done? I know next to nothing about the antique tractor pulling world, but it seems to me that there are some dangerous situations happening. Just my 2 cents - i'd appreciate any input, positive or negative. I'm not condemning anybody, I just don't want somebody winding up dead.

G-man, I am new to all of this stuff too as I only pull in a few local pulls in farm stock but your right about the big boys. their getting more and more HP out of them and doing things with motors they weren't built to do. This is fine as I like watching them but like any other sport safety is the first concern to me. When I first got into this I looked at the NATPA site and siscussions and all. It seemed that I recall someone mentioning that they were considering new regulations and even going to roll cages for div IV V classes. I know alot of the guys I see implement alot of safety features on their own as well. Anyone know what if anything NATPA is doing on this?

Blankets
Dead man stick
sub frame supports
wheely bars-middle of frame
maybe steel fly wheels
all other Divs. will stay the same.
P.S. The tractors that are having trouble staying together have been in Div.4
People are stating that the rules are geating cared away. (Thats super stock rules)!
Have you seen a Div. 4 & 5 lately? It's like watching a old super stock pull.

chunk of camshaft and lifter landed on track my guess would be rod failure followed by engine ventilitation
