Hoping someone out there could tell me more about this engine. I inherited it from my Grandfather and never asked him about it while he was alive and my Grandmother doesnt know anything about it. I think it was made by Standard and someone told me that they might have been used on cream separators. I would like to know the year it was built and would like to hear from anyone who can tell me what else they were used for. I apologize for all the pop-up advertisements on my page. Thanks for taking the time to view my page and I look forward to any replies.

Jon

Yes, the engine was made by "Standard Separator Company", made in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was made primarily to run a cream separator. I see it looks to be very original including the original fuel tank. They were first patented in 1911 but they had been produced for several years, at least till 1916, maybe later. The earlier models had a cream separator built right on itnad high tensioin magneto, and by 1915 they sold the motor alone, with batter ignition such as you have.

Jon,

I also have a standard separator engine similar to yours. It's nice to know that there are some others out there! Thanks for the info Wayne, my Grandfather helped me acquire my engine, and estimated the manufacture date to be around the same as you have advised. Mine has a different fuel tank and carburettor arrangement, with the tank hanging under the carby. Mine also has a magento fitted, with the markings "Elkhart Mfg. Co., Mich. USA." Apparantly the engine was used in the dairy shed on my great granfather's dairy farm outside Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia. I have heard of two others somewhere in Australia, although one had the cooling fins on the cylinder slanted diagonally.I you would like, I could send you some photos, when I find them on my PC.
