O.K.- so how many of you clod kickers use a chip in your 7.3? AND??? whose chip are you using AND- how is it helping you with towing that old iron around. Curious, and I'd sure like to know before I shell out some cabbage.

Banks is a very good system. If you put one of their kits in you won't have to worry about EGT's. They are very conservative with their systems. If you wants the most performance go with a Diablo of Superchips. If you have a manual don't go with a programmer. A programmer is made to adjust your tranny also. So if you have a manual your just throwing that money away.

I agree on the Gale Banks stuff... they build the best!!! ...haven't chipped my 'stroke yet, but put a Banks power pack kit on my 460 gasser and it was a difference of night and day... didn't improve the mileage much, but had incredible power... could smoke the dual rears!!!

My dad chipped his with the Diablo and is very happy with the performance. Superchips sells a programmer that allows you to program 3 levels of performance and would allow you reprogram for difference needs. Personally I feel the best way to go if you have the money is the Gale Banks system. About $2500 gets you updated exhaust, turbo, intercooler, transmission chip, etc and you get a 105 +- gain in HP. Chipping a moter will increase exhaust temps exspecially under load so you can only increase so much without doing other things.

I work with an auction company and I have noticed that there a lot of F-250 powerstrokes pulling hot shot trailers. To make a long story short I talked to a hauler that has been in the hauling business for at least 20 years and he is driving a 2001 powerstroke and he has put over 200,000 miles on his truck. He had it chipped and said it was like a different truck. Saod you could put a 4840 on it and run 75 if you wanted to. Only problem is the automatic transmission would not stand the pressure.

What is a 4840, please?

I have 99 350 supercab 4x4 with 4.11 finals, 6 speed manual, dual rear wheels. Get about 10-11 mpg with about 6K behind it making GVW 16K+ doing around 65 on freeway.

Power has never been a problem but would not mind better economy.

4:11 rear hurts you. A chip & 4"exhaust will net you 3 mpg, but you'll get a lot more hp and lower exhaust temps. mostly it is that rearend though- good luck m.d.

A 4840 is a model of a John Deere tractor he could mean this ? Are you only getting 10-11 on a diesel ? My 460 gets 8 cost a lot less to maintain
less oil and cheaper filters and less of them. Am I missing something ? other than the higher cost of a diesel engine ?

I don't have one but in talking with a dealer just this past summer, he told me that when the other 2 mfg were upping the power, all ford did was to chip the motor to keep up.

Maybe just chipping with a newer ford chip would work too, I don't know.

I think the dealer was pulling your leg... the original powerstrokes are 7.3 liter... the new ones are 6 liters and change... don't know all the details, but understand it's a complete redesign on the engine!
