Does your dog ride with you on your tractor? My Dad had a dog that rode on the hood of his AC Model M tractor. Dad attached a rug for the dog to sit on. He only let him ride arounnd the place, as the field work would be too dusty. Stan in calif.

My Jack Russell rides in or on every piece of equipment and vehicle I own. I put a leash on her when on an open station tractor that is pulling something wider than the tractor in case a rat runs by.

Duchess, my Irish Setter, has been with me now for 14 years and doesn't go much now, but back in the day...
I had a 1486 IH and she would sleep on the rear window ledge. She rode in the floor of the grain combine, and several times rode on top of a Lilliston Peanut combine. She still rides in the cab of my 4440 now and then, but she's bad to have gas.
Its good to know when everybody else in the world is ill at ya, your dog's just glad to see you.

When I first learned to drive the AC B, Pal, my ole dog rode all the time in the fields with me on the wide seat of the ole girl. Eventually,he got old and a few young girls gave it a try for a while. Most were from the big city and did not do well in the dust, dirt, and the noise. An excellent tractor for having a companion enjoy the experience.

Best dog we ever had ('60s/early '70s) was part spaniel/mostly mutt; she went everywhere with me. Had an open station 699 cotton picker which had a large platform and a perfect place for her. Being high off the ground, she could easily see down into the rows; when we'd jump a rabbit or flush a covey of quail, I'd stop and she jump down and chase after them (couldn't catch 'em) 'til she got tired or gave up. She'd come back to the picker, I'd stop and let the headers down so she could jump up on them; pick the headers all the way up and she'd jump back to her "place". I thought more of that dog (she had more character) than of most people I knew; sometimes I still miss her.

We have a german shepard he's 3 years old now.He started out riding on my 4 wheeler, on the rear rack. I guess I never should have gave him a ride in the combine or the steiger, which he can get into by himself by jumping up onto the dual across the fender and into the cab (if the door is open).Some times its nice having passenger and sometimes it gets pretty crowded!!!

Have a friend who has Blue Heeler and she goes everywhere he does.Loves to ride in the combine.That didn't go over so good after he fed her some White Castle hamburgers one day.I guess acording to my friend there is no worse smell in the world than a dog farting White Castle hamburgers.LOl,bob

Come to think of it that old Border Collie had a litle Blue Healer in her, Shepard too. But she looked like a Border Collie unless she was beside a true B.C. One afternoon I threw her the raw heart from a deer. That night my Mother had to get out of bed and kick the dog out of the basement. The fumes were just too much.

None of our dogs rode on the tractor, but a couple liked to ride on the hay wagons. We never had a kicker baler (brother now runs my grandparent"s farm and still doesn"t have one) so all the hay was piled on the wagons and the dogs would ride along with whomever was piling the bales. One summer we got talked into caring for a neighbor"s two baby goats, Mary and Martha. They LOVED riding on the wagons--they"d happily ride there all day, and would clamber up and down each tier as we built it, making a general nuisance of themselves.

chief: There was an old guy in my hometown, had a Farmall Cub with a wooden platform on drawbar for going to the feed store. His German Shepherd used to ride with back feet on platform and front feet up by gear shift. He wasn't a big man so dog stood higher then he. You would see him going with 3-4 bags of feed and the dog.

I had a Border Collie loved the pickup. You couldn't walk to truck without him. If I happened to leave truck door open he would be in truck waiting for me. Felt sorry for him one day, he jumped in truck, door blew shutt, not sure how long he was there, but he wasn't too pleased with the heat. It was quite hot and he was feeling it when I arrived. He had a way of letting you know when not pleased. Got a kick out of him one day, first time we passed through a bridge with overhead steel frame. He was sitting on seat beside me, ducked and lay flat on seat. He never did get over ducking steel bridges. None of these happenings ever stopped him from wanting to go.

What a great topic. My Blue Heeler rides everywhere with me. She doesnt need any help climbing into any of the tractors, even climbs the combine ladder but doesnt stay long, too cramped for her liking, she'll lay under the trucks. She can ride all day, I try to bring a water dish with me, she wont get out of site of the tractor even to find water while mowing hay on a nice 100 degree July day!

Had a Black Lab that would ride on the floorboard of a 4010 to the field, When we got there he would get off run and play all day along the field then jump back on for the ride home. He was really good company on them long days, used to share my lunch and my water with ole Buck Boy, Miss that dog!

My old hound trotted along side as I would cultivate corn... Of course I was only play cultivating. Anyway coyotes started stalking her. She was frightened of riding in the tractor cab but those coyote scared her more. When I opened the door she lept up into the cab and hapily rode there till the summer she died.

We had an old neighbour who's Border Collie would ride all day long on the fender of his J.D. BR. If I remember right, he had attached a board on the fender to accomodate his guest. Can still see them together, these many years later.

Our past Border Collie was keen to ride as well. She would run from the buildings a mile to the back of the farm. Just for a return ride. She would hop up on her own onto the platform of any of the Waterloo two Cylinders. She also rode beside the differential lock lever on the 1840 and the 2355. Miss that dog too. Current male Border collie is pretty keen to ride as well.If we go somewhere without him he will either trail the garbage across the lawn. Or pull up my newly planted trees. He will sit for hours in the back of the truck if the tailgate is down and the cap door up. Just so he won't miss a ride. The *(&%&*(^( scratched the tailgate paint one day hopping in before the tailgate was lowered. If in the van he will sit up on his hind legs just see out the windshield. He's not allowed on the seats. One night I couldn't figure out what the smell was for most of the trip. The dog was standing behind the drivers seat with his nose almost in my left ear.It was the cold wet nose during a sudden turn that gave his position away.

Not a dog, but i have a barn cat that rides on the left fender of my IH 666, every time i get on it, she's up there before i can get it started.

When I was a kid we had a dog that used to ride on the hood of the cut-down '29 Chevy my father used on the farm. Later I had a Scotty that rode in the front basket on my bike.

Letting a Good companion (DOG ) ride on moving Equiptment is almost as bad as someone letting their little KIDs ride on a Rider Mower with them while mowing the grass. Safety is ignored with that . There is a woman here in Northern Ohio that was pulling a small implement and had a small grans son riding on the Fender of the tractor . The Funeral for the little boy was a large one. THink about it the next time you want to haul a grandkid on a Fender .
