It seems that the U.S. is loaded with single axle trucks, take a look on e-bay, I know your preference is for a GM, but there seems to be an awful lot of older fords out there worth investigating for a few thousand dollars, I use my old F-600 for the same purposes, it's just a handy thing to have at your disposal. Even locally in the want ad digest, I see many good single axles quite often, like a fool, last year I passed up on a single axle international '79 S-1700 fire tanker, with like 7,000 miles on it, was always in the firehouse, super clean, they only wanted $1100.00 for it, also had a '69 for the same money, same miles and condition. That tank could have been sold and even with a new dump body, it would have been dollars ahead, keep looking and don't buy the first one you see, look em over carefully they are out there, very reasonable too, mine was an old grain truck, there seems to be plenty of those for sale at times too.
