1968 4020 has a power lift issue. had it adjusted by deere. but still cannot control it. is real erratic. up and down all the time never can set in one position. any ideas?

Also look at the lever by the dipstick on the floor pan. I don't know what position ours is in right now but I know if you mess with it you can make the 3pt really flaky.

89 if yor JD dealer didn't adjust the L&D by the tech manual verbatum then that's what needs to be done. I was a service manager at a JD dealership and some technicians had to have assistance to adjust the L&D correctly. Alot of them thought turning nut in bung hole in rear was "adjusting L&D" but it's way more involved. Similiar misunderstanding with 24 v systems.

Probably not related - but my JD 4840 was doing the same thing.

After weeks of messing around, the JD mechanic tore the rear end apart and found some linkage arm on a control rod had sheared a roll pin/bolt in there.

I didn't see it, but he said it might have come from a large sideways force on the three point - considering we'd been planting wheat with a 3 pt mount 27' Great Plains drill (which would lift the front end off the ground when full), I could well believe him we might have slammed it sideways a little too hard on a turn...
