I can tell you what the manual says Andy. Let the engine cool at idle on diesel for awhile. Give it time to stabalize. Then, switch the engine over to gas before shutting it down. They say to reverse the starting procedure. I have a 450D, and when I try it this way, most of the time it dies when going from diesel to gas. I think the main thing when shutting it down is to let it idle and cool off before shutting it down. Then, after stopping the engine make sure you have the compression lever in the gas position so the valves will not warp. I do not know if this is correct or not, but we have had the 450D since 58 and never cracked a head or warped a valve. Best of luck, Bill
