Hi Hugh, I noticed that you have quite a few postings regarding the 140/Super A type tractor in the history so I feel you know exactly what you are talking about. My tractor did not come with the 90 degree offset pulley, I purchased it used, locally and installed it. The reason is, I spoke with woods and asked if I needed it to use the mower. They told me it was required for the 306. I also purchased the correct mounts for the 140 from my local Woods dealer. I do not see how the belt could be routed if I did not have the gear box with pulley. Same with the belt. I am starting to get quite a bit of money wrapped up in what was supposed to be a simple project to replace my Yardman mower. I will check the part number of the belt against the manual posted on Woods website today. I have moved the mower mount up and down and in and out several times to get the right fit. I can make it miss the front wheels but the belt is loose with not enough take up. There is an additional position for the gage wheels but that puts them directly behind the front tractor wheels. I am resigned to the fact that I will have to remove the front axle to get it to spread. Why shouldn't I use grease? I was considering installing a couple of zerk fittings on each side to keep it greased in case I need to move them again. I really like George's idea of using 2 bottle jacks to keep even pressure. I would be very concerned if I had to heat the tubes cherry red to get it apart. Thanks for your help. If you can direct me to schematics for belt installation w/o the gear box I would surely try that.

The Cletrac General GG and the BF Avery A - A Bit of History - by Mike Ballash. This article is a summary of what I have gathered up from various sources on the Gletrac General GG and the B. F. Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
