hassan: The tractor you've seen resembling a 140 at the rear and 66 series on front was probably a 274. It followed the 140, beginning production in 1980. If so run the other way, it has an oriental 3 cylinder diesel that doesn't have a particularly good reputation. Two commercial vegetable farmer friends of mine bought these 274 new for work on their farms. Both tractors had to have engine rebuilds within 3 years. One of these guys could have written a check for 10 new 274's any day. The other guy it hurt badly in the pocket book. Both had to wait 6 months for parts. Today these guys are using a Super A and a 130 in their respective vegetable patches. The 274 does have features that caught the attention of quite a few folks in the early 80s; factory 3 point hitch, dual range transmission giving nice creeper speeds and the diesel. Problem is IH just chose the wrong diesel. That parts item could be much better by now as I suspect nothing was in the system closer than Japan when those premature engine failures occurred in the 1980s. I'll still bet there are a higher percentage of SA, 100, 130 or 140 still in operation than 274.

Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
