: thanks for the info, I was hoping for a simple solution using the existing valve/reaction link system. (wishful thinking). I live on a 50 acre New England farm and we use a JD1050,420c(loader) and cubs for hay, corn, cattle, poultry farming. I have an opportunity to buy a 1949 8n (rebuilt, new tires, paint etc.) for $2500. But with no live hyd.(non live pto, no ps,no H/L,) I'm wondering if this will be a good working tractor? Having to engage the pto on hay rakes, tetters, etc. in order to lift them could be annoying. comments?
No simple way to do this, that's for sure.
That's a nice price for an 8N in fine shape, and I'd be inclined to buy it anyway. I'm sure you could find a use for it.
But strictly for "working" use, I'd agree that the lack of live PTO especially is a bit of a pain. I'd be looking for a more modern tractor with at least live hydraulics.
