: : : I'm considering a Ford 640. Is there anything
: : : that I should look for beyond the normal
: : : stuff: maintenance/hydraulics/transmission/etc.
: : : Is there anything that is a particular problem with
: : : this tractor that would require more than normal
: : : attention to determine if it is operating properly?
: : : Thanks
: :One thing to look for is "live PTO" & a "double clutch."
: : This allows you to push clutch pedal half way for trans shift and all way down to disengage PTO.
: : =======
: If you are looking at a 640, they were never equipped with live pto and double clutch.
Ray's got a good point. You'll find that set-up on a Model 660 and 860.
Check the engine compression before you buy. An overhaul would set you back a few $$$. All in all, if everything works ok, you'll have a nice tractor. I know, Dad and I have one.
