: : I just bought an old 1940 farmall B and it ran once
: : before I got it. Now it doesn't appear to be getting
: : gas because the spark plugs aren't wet. It does have a spark. After I crank it over, gas
: : pours out of the air intake - this doesn't seem right.
: : What would cause this? I have checked for vacuum leaks
: : and it has ran about 3 weeks ago so the cylinders
: : shouldn't be dry.
: : My thought right now is that maybe it is getting gas
: : but the gas is too old to start it up. I'm going drain
: : it and start with fresh gas

: : Any Suggestions?

: Dave, do check the quality of the fuel. Assuming that it will start a fire, I am going to suggest that the problem is ignition; it's almost always ignition but certainly water contaminated fuel can get you on trouble.
: Let me know how you come out after checking the fuel quality (be sure to drain the carburater). I can make this thing run over the phone.
: Good luck,
: Curt

Curt - I got it running tonight. It was the fuel! It is
amazing what a difference fresh gas makes - it popped right off.
I thought the gas looked and smelled old. I had this same problem
on a chain saw I fought with until I changed the gas. I wonder what
the shelf life of gas is anyway; maybe I'll post that question.
