: I recently converted my MF-65 from a generator/regulator setup to an alternator with an internal regulator (GM Delco). It charges very well but discharges the battery when turned off. Wiring is as follows:
: Terminal 1: Is connected to the BAT term. on the alternator.
: Terminal 2: Connected to IGN on ignition switch.
: BAT terminal: goes to the ammeter and ultimately to the pos. battery post.
: Have I wired incorrectly or do I need to add a diode or something. Thanks in advance for any information anyone may be able to provide.

David -
You have the wiring to the #1 and #2 terminals reversed. Should be wired as follows:
Term #1 - To the switched (IGN) side of ign switch
Term #2 - To BAT terminal on alternator
Note: You also should have either an indicator lamp or a 10 ohm resistor between the ignition switch and the #1 terminal.
I've scanned in a wiring diagram I sketched for a Delco alternator conversion. Advise if you want a copy - I'll e-mail to you off-line.
