Fortson Super Dexta hydraulic question

Hi,

I have (unfortunately) recently inherited a Super Dexta from my late father. I am trying to connect up a log splitter to it but having some difficulty. I know to unscrew the cap of the rear axel (the returning oil hose goes in here) and connect up the hydraulic ram hose to the connector just to the right and rear of the seat. My question is how to make this work. I have fiddled with the small lever just under the seat (which apparently affects the lifting arms) and the strange screw setting just above this - but to no avail. I remember my father making this work but unfortunately just never paid enough attention to the settings

Would anyone be a ble to advise?

many thanks

Malcolm

Hi
1, The thumbscrew alters the rate of oil flow to the 3 pt lift.
2. The other knob has to be pulled out to isolate the 3 pt lift and divert the oil for you to use the log splitter. It sounds as if this pull knob is siezed up due to lack of use. If you manage to free it (without breaking the plastic) please leave another post here as I have the same problem!

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the tip - I'll maybe take a photo as I do it and see if I can upload that. I'm off work tomorrow (meant to be chain-sawing a couple of trees) but it gives snow and wind (I live in NI) so I may not get a chance until the weekend

I think I have the right configuration worked out now

1. connect the hydraulic hose
2. unscrew the tap of the back axel for the return oil hose
3. pull out the stopper under the seat to divert the flow of oil
4 - raise the hydraulic lifting arm all the way up

-- I hope that;s it - I will know more when all this snow dissapears and I cna get back to it.

many thanks

Hi Malcolm:

I bought a 1963 Super Major and was a real newbie regarding all of the knobs and levers which were very strange to me as to what they were for.

I got a manual and all is clear now.

Look on Ebay there are always manuals on there

Have you tried pulling out the nob on the front of the hydrulic valve this will divert the oil to the remote coupling. It is by the "strange screw". It may be stuck if it has not been used for years.

Hi Thanks for your reply.

There are really two "strange screws" here.

1. This is a definite thumb screw (plastic cap) pointing forwards, extending into a metal movable piece (about 3 inches square) as I unscrew it I can move this piece around a bit - while if it is screwed in tight it doesn't really move at all.

2. There is another nut based screw facing slightly right and just below the knob described above. It looks as if this can only be moved with a spanner - though I could move it with my fingers if I tried.

I know it all should work OK as it did about 5 months ago and the tractor hasn't been going since (it has always started OK and the linkage system works perfectly)

thanks again for any hints.

Malcolm
