The 1420 at work on an 80 acre field that made 143 BPA.Notice the wrinkled sheet metal on the rear view. The rear axle center tube broke and it went down.A new one was $1453 but got a used one for $450.

I'm renting the farm out for 2008 so will be parting this combine out.The frame is too busted up to sell it.All major componets are still sound.

I've got 94 acres of beans to do yet.

Why in the heck would you rent the farm out? With the current grain prices I'd give my right arm to be part time farming again. And I'd be cash renting every single acre, with 1970's equipment. With your love for combines I think it would be sad to be sitting next year watching the 3000 acre neighbor farmer run your ground.

I'd also love to have a 1420.

Wow! I know by your past posts you're very capable of bringing machines to life and I figure if you can't do it no one can. That's a shame, that type of machine would have made what I call a core farmer or someone starting out a nice machine. Do you suppose whoever had it before ran it too fast over some rough terrain or dropped it off a truck? Unbelievable! You know when we had our AC dealership we got a call that the railroad had a new M2 Hydro Corn Plus that was sitting on a flatcar on a siding and a fast moving freight train clipped it, hit it so hard it broke the binders and slid it sideways flattened the 30.5-32 drive tire so we brought it to our shop AC brought in two factory engineers and they spent two days going over it and we put a new drive tire on it and AC said put it on the lot and they would back anything that was related to the accident to the customer a dedicated customer came in and made what I thought was a ridiculous offer and AC took it. As far as I know the machine is still running we got nothing out of it because AC said the RR is responsible and said get your money from them on an insurance claim sent that in they acknowledged it and said we owe you and till the day we closed we never saw a dime including the 30.5 drive tire. Oh well the point I'm making is there is something to be said for a bine with a frame. Wow! I get long winded. Good Luck CT PS I always enjoy your posts.

The 1420 was made from 1979 thru 1982 what year is that one? Did you buy it new? How many hours on it? I don't know if I'd scrap it out, I'm sure some IH guy on here would suck it up if they knew it was as is. Good fabricators could brace the chassis up as long as the drive system is solid and the base unit doesn't have problems i.e. rotor drive coupling, elephant ears, etc.

Its a 1981 model bought used in 2000 with over 3200 hours on it at the time.

Its broken up so badly that I will be lucky to finish the beans.I've never seen a combine come apart like this one.Its getting stress cracks everywhere.I'm welding on it all the time. The left front axle housing had been broken before I got it.The right front axle housing broke during wheat harvest 2006.The sheet metal is sad from all of this.

I can sell the engine alone for more than the entire combine would bring. Most 1420's stayed together alot better than this one so dont judge them from mine.

I am really surprised you even put that machine through another harvest in such a shape. Blaine, she's a goner and that's only prolonging her misery. Get one of TDS's good Deere bines if needed to finish your beans and gently put down that poor 1420. I know you and I are the last people around, who would just wantonly part out a combine, but heck, enough is enough, too.
