Can anyone tell me the model of this grain drill?
I've read that they just painted the mods on the box. There was a number in the middle back of the box but it's gone. Thanks all!!!

 NOT a FB-B but FB or FB-A ? in reply to farmer101IL, 12-17-2006 07:25:50
Yes it is not a FB-B. Here are some scans from a JD predelivery assembly manual for the FB-A versions. The hitch pic still isn't right but they showed another one that has the same hitch as yours for a FB137A, Model FB, 13 openers, 7" spacing, A version. It could still just be a plain model FB also. The plain FB is covered in operators manual OMM2355 and PC149 parts catalog. The FB-A is covered in operators manual OMM15 and PC278 parts catalog. I didn't have part catalogs for it. If your local JD dealer has those parts catalogs that may help you narrow it down more to which version FB or FB-A. Can also order manuals by calling JD Publications 800-522-7448 or order from their site or JD dealer will get you manuals too for a bit more.

Hey Glen thanks for that research. I really appreciate it. This should definitely get me a number on this thing. I'll see what I can find for these manuals.

Take care Farmer

Could be a early FB-A, FB-B or DF-B ? What type of seed cups in box? I'll take a look at some more manuals later and get back to you. There were other F,D & R models with flat lids also but looks like a F version to me. The pic is scanned from a FB-B & DF-B manual and two more pics under my handle in implement photos. You might search for more of your drill there also.

Your pics are fine. I'll just have to dig out some of my old drill manuals and get back with you if the power will stay on and quit blinking.

Glen the drill pictured in opening thread doesn't have the drive chain under shield on end of middle of grain and fert box so it can't be an FB-B or DF-B. Tx Jim

Jim, I posted some pics above and yeah it's not a FB-B or DF-B but should be either a plain FB or FB-A. What is the differences between those two? I could find much in a plain FB operators manual and FB-A predelivery manual to really tell me.

I'll have to dig out the drill manuals and take another look at it. This storm left us sitting in the dark last night so never got time to check back on it.

Have on similar except yours is a 13 runner and has the covering chains. Even has the grass seeder too. There is no serial number plate per say, it's just painted on the lower back of the mid, slightly right side on the fertilzer box. Mine says 7x17 space then the serial number 316. There is an F and likely a faint B also on mine. The patient numbers are painted down the far right rear of the fertilzer box. The fertizer box has a cast iron plate botton. There is an early and late version of this FB, ours is late. To my horror when looking at it 5 minutes ago. The wind has been flapping the tarp and it's rubbed thin the top half of the name across the back. Most parts still on Mother Deere's shelves.

Not an FB-B in reply to Gerald J., 12-17-2006 08:41:33
That is not an FB-B as they had yellow curved lids and green box not flat lids(compartment covers). The fert.box has wheels that put out fert on FB/FB-A while the FB-B has a long 2 piece agitatar. Tx Jim

Funny, I'm sure the FBB in the back of my machine shed has flat lids and individual agitation wheels in the fertilizer box. However, I've not looked at it closely in a couple years.

Ebay drill in reply to Gerald J., 12-18-2006 11:58:55
Gerald,I may have to eat "humble pie" on curved vs flat lids as I found a JD FB-B drill on ebay # 130057411285. In the pictures lids appear flatter than I remembered. It's listed as FB but serial number plate clearly shows FB-B. I stand firm on no flat gears in fert box on the FB-B's I've seen in person. Tx Jim

Gerald,if you have a JD FB-B with flat lids and gears that fit flat in bottom of fertilizer box "please post a picture with FB-B logo visable". It should bring a very high price as a one of a kind! When I worked for a JD dealer they were built as I stated as I remember assembling them along with other implements. Tx Jim
