I have a neighbor that wants to sell me a 2 row planter. The only number I can find on it is on the rear axle RP170. The fertizer doesn't work on the one side. I planted with it and I would have liked it to do a better job of covering the kernels (maybe an adj is needed). Pretty rusty but overall seems to work ok. I will know for sure once the corn comes up. Question - does anyone have any oppinions on this planter? How much could it be worth? I will try to attach a couple of pictures.

That"s a model #39 planter. Good planter over-all, but plates are sorta scarce. Lincoln AG list"s several available, but they"re not "edge drop" plates like MOST of the #39"s use. The "fertilizer attachment" on yours ISN"T a fertilizer attachment if I"m seeing correctly. Those are pesticide applicators I THINK. The fertilizer box SHOULD be a large single box that feeds both rows.

Most parts are still available through MF/AGCO.

I"ve got a #39 that"s in original condition. It"s planted less than 50 acres in it"s life.

nice looking set up - I am guessing yours is a newer model than mine. I alreay have the plates for sweet corn - I don't know if the seller has any other plates to go with it or not?

great job on getting the picture posted, I have never been able to figure out how to post a picture and a picture is worth a thousand words.

Rough looking old planter, in my humble opinion, I would past it by unless its a steal or you want a vintage Ferguson planter to go with your tractor.

I have a little two row John Deere with 25-B planter units bolted to a tool bar. Great little planter and can be adjusted to almost any width with little trouble.

I know this is a Ferguson site, but John Deere made a very good planter and might be worth trying to find one.

Good luck and be safe,

I am not specific about brand, my tractor is an old 44 2N so it"s not like I am trying to match equipment. I Think he said he wanted $150.00 - I don"t think it is worth that much but I have not tried pricing them either. I cannot get the right side pesticide or fertilizer cork screw to turn to deliver the granuales. I do not see anything to indicate a large fertilizer box missing. But I really have no need for putting down fertilizer (have my own chicken manure) or pesticide so that part is not important to me - but I think it should considered in the overall price.

We had a 2 row Ferguson planter. Those press wheels are not the best for covering seed. We would drag chains behind the planter to help with covering the seed. A nice rain after planting will do the most good in getting the seed to sprout.
