Looked at both today. Vicon $5800 & 3 blades/disk, Galfre $5100 & 2 blades/disk. 7'10". Any thoughts?

I cant comment on the Galfre, the name is not familiar to us over here. I had a 7'10" Vicon CM240 and I loved it. we cut acres and acres with it without problems, it was a real step up from the Fahr 5'6" Drum mower which was good but just wore out. I used to run the Vicon on an MF168 in 1st high, high multipower and she did not even know it was back there. We kept the old Vicon for pasture topping (thistles nettles etc) when we upgraded to a Lely disc Mower conditioner (also 7'10"), but the old vicon was still going strong when we sold it. Change the oil in the gearbox and cutterbed annually.

2X4 I have used Vicons for a number of years and they do a good job cutting. Neither were new, which was a mistake on my part. The newer one required a new gear box. I am not familiar with the Galfre. One way to tell the difference between a premium mower and a cheap one is to check the thickness of the curtain. Cheaper models are thinner. The Vicon price sounds good. If you get any new mower with the gears running in oil, I would change the oil after running it for a few hours to get rid of the metal dust left from the maching, then change the oil once a year. Good luck. KEH

Some manufacturers like Vermeer offer Kevlar covers.
