I bought a JD 1209 haybine a while back. It was pretty bad, but I"ve been working to get it back in shape.

Anyhow, one of the problems that I"m having is that the hay just seems to spit out almost randomly after the rollers -- I have to rake it into a windrow. Shouldn"t the haybine be building a nice windrow? If so, what might be causing it to go everywhere? I was thinking that it might be because of the rusted sheet metal guides... Anyone have this problem before?

Thanks!

I think you need to adjust reel so that it evenly feeds hay to crimper rollers. Also the fluffing flap needs to be in raised position to allow hay to get to windrow forming shields. Tx Jim

The guards are adjustable, but the adjustment mechanism is rusted up. Maybe I'll look into freeing it up a bit. So, the windrows will be tighter if these guides pivot inwards?

The suspension was frozen up too until it got a couple wonks with the sledge :)

Thanks for the help

The guides can be adjusted to make a tighter windrow so if they are not working right that could make a difference. There should also be a door from the top of the windrow former to hold the hay down in the windrow. If it is really short grassy hay there may be no way to get it to the guides.

ARE THE WINDROWING SHIELDS ON IT? THESE ARE SHEET METAL PIECES ON THE REAR OF THE MACHINE THAT KIND OF FUNNEL THE GRASS INTO A WINDROW. MAYBE THEY NEED TO BE AJUSTED.
