Those of you that regularly read this board know I'm a lurker until I hit a problem with my '49 8N (#231880), which You all have directed me down the right path to a solution every single time. I have a small "ranchette" in Wichita Falls, TX that I get some seat-time on. Being retired military, I feel that everything has a place and should be in its place. So maybe this is anal, but I want all my implements painted the same colors as the tractor. I have the Ford light gray from TSC and am OK with it. HOWEVER - the Ford red they sell is Orange. Sorry, it's not the lighting or the angle - it's just orange. I plan on painting the 8N, a trailer, boxblade, dirtscoop, disc harrow, boom pole, bushhog all to match. But it will look like I stole everything from U-Haul. Today I found the answer, the TSC version of New Holland red is a perfect match for the pre-existing paint on the tractor. I know the 50+ year old paint is faded and maybe not even the original color, but I am so excited to find a color I can live with, I just had to share it with everyone. Thanks again for all the support you have provided to me. - Joe (RuintTX)

My 48 8N was way to orange for my taste, so I bought the TSC Ford red as well. Luckily, I also discovered it was a bit too orange before I put it on. I also discovered New Holland Red is a much nicer fix. I sprayed mine on with hardener as well and I think it looks great. The Ford grey, however; seems too white... Overall, I thing it was a good paint for the cost.

Good luck,
Dan

My $.02----
Tractor Supply primers are good. But-their original paint colors leave a lot to be desired.
A New Holland dealer will have the right red for an 8N. Don't get "New Holland Red--" that's a different red. But they will have the original red for 8N's-I think the number is 916 but I'm not entirely sure about that number. Anyway, they can help you out.

The oem ford red was a tad orangy anyway. And in defense of the TSC paint.. it cures a little less orangy.. still too orangy for me.. I went with a brick red / fire truck red. Hardner and uv addatives go a long way to extend a paints finish and durability. I used it on my 2n, and am amazed at the results between my 8n/naa and the 2n.

I bought TSC paint and then read a post about how BPS paint tends to fade to orange quickly. I took it back cause I don't want an orange 8N either. Check the archives. I haven't painted yet but plan on Sherman Williams or a better brand. Hope I didn't bust your bubble. HTH

I have had great success with the Sherwin Williams outfit. I just take a part off the tractor that I find on her that is still original color, and, they use their computer to match up a batch of Industrial enamel for me. Good stuff.
