Is there a good way for a hobbiest to change rear tractor tires? I once saw an add for a screw type bead breaker sold by Gemplers in Mt Horeb Wisconsin. Does any one know if this tools works?
Any other tools made, that help, or do you have to call the experts to replace the rear tires?

I have changed a couple of them using a spud bar or digging bar and a fence post driver to break the bead loose. Just put the flat part of the bar under or at least against the rim and try to drive it like a fence post. 4 or 5 hits at 3 or 4 spots usualy breaks one down. A farm jack or bumper jack driven in against the rim and used to try to jack up your tractor or truck will also break one down. Crowbars will work for tire irons in a pinch. Good luck!

Venda, Is there a TSC, Gebo's or like farm supply store in your area? They sell the tire tools and bead breakers that you will need to accomplish the task of removing and installing the tires on the rim. You may also want to try the nearest NAPA Auto Parts Store. They too usually have a selection of tire tools. You might also try Northern or Harbor Freight and see if they have what you need.

later days mate,
Jim (now in New Mexico again)

Another option is to buy a tire bead breaker from T.E. Miller Tire Company. (on the internet) It is like a large slide hammer designed to break tire beads. I bought one and have used it many times to break large and small tire beads.

Venda:

I bought one of those bead breakers from Gemplers, and I must say that it works superbly! I don't have a good tire shop nearby, and my JD 855 turf tires have a penchant for attracting thorns and nails, so I use it more than I ever thought I would have. It's a pricey gadget, but if you're going to be messing with big tires routinely, it beats a hammer and a tire iron.
