Hi all. I own a machine shop, (Richmond Engineering) and was recently asked by the shop manager at the local Ford / New Holland dealer to re-spline a stripped main input shaft for a Ford 4000 series, 10 speed select-O-matic transmission. I told him it would be rather expensive, and he replied that money was not the object, as the tractor had to be repaired, and the were absolutely none of these shafts to be bought,.. anywhere, new or used! Anyway, I did repair said shaft with much success, and was paid well. The dealer and tractor owner were very happy, and I've now been thinking that since I have made the jigs and setups for this particular job, and it seems there should be plenty of Ford 4000's around with the same problem,.. (clutch splines sheared) Maybe I should just go ahead and advertise the fact that I *can* repair these for the benefit of those folks who did not know where else to turn for the answer to this particular, and apparently very common problem. Obviously I can do the same job much cheaper now, since I already have the tooling and the setups. Feel free to contact me by E-mail if you have any comments you'd like to make, either way. I also trade on certain kinds of equipment, and you can find photo's and information on what I have available at: http://www.richmondlabs.com/AutoPool/AutoFile.html I'll post a picture of the repair there as well, in case any one is interested.
