Super C Comes Home | In the 40’s and 50’s our family had a dairy operation on the banks of the Elk River in Southern Middle Tennessee, which was a large operation for the times. Working the fields, Oliver and Farmall, were the brands of choice. Milking and tending crops for the cattle was the mission for my grandparents, parents, and older siblings. As time progressed the dairy business allowed my grandparents to retire early in life and in 1958 buy a smaller farm on the other side of Lincoln County, which is the place I know as home. The move was made and the farming started all over again with beef cattle, a few hogs, and custom hay bailing I think just to keep my grandfather out of my Mema’s hair. Some of the equipment also made the move including a 1951 Farmall Super C that Papa bought new in 1952 with a set of cultivators, a disk, and a turning plow. He continued farming until his sudden and unexpected death in the summer of 1961. My father continued farming but sold the Super C because he had his own that he had bought new in 1954. The Little C was sold to a longtime family friend and crossed the county once again and would spend the rest of its days working a truck patch or raking hay until 1988 when the owner’s bad health would force the tractor to sit in the barn for its own retirement. As with most small towns, everyone knows everyone or are some how related. I always knew where the Little C was but never asked about it. Then in 2015, the Little C belongs to a cousin of mine who inherited it from her Grandfather’s estate and now sits still in the barn with 25+ years of dust, rats nest, and spider webs on it and the barn falling down. My cousin’s father then contacted me because he knew where the tractor had come from and offered me the chance for my family to own it again. I was thrilled at this opportunity so my sons and I went to get the tractor. And amazingly I was was able to purchase the tractor back for the same amount it had been purchased for in 1963. I had always wondered about this tractor and never thought I would be able to own it in our family again. It was a wonderful feeling bring this tractor back home.P Larry Lee Phelps, TN, entered 2015-08-09 My Email Address: Not Displayed |

Field Modifications (Sins of the Farmer) - by Staff. Picture a new Chevrolet driving down the street without it's grill, right fender and trunk lid. Imagine a crude hole made in the hood to accommodate a new taller air cleaner, the fender wells cut away to make way for larger tires, and half of a sliding glass door used to replace the windshield. Top that off with an old set of '36 Ford headlight shells bolted to the hood. Pretty unlikely for a car... but for a tractor, this is pretty normal. It seems that more often than not they a
