Andrew, it might be good to do some research on that baler because AC didn't make thier own square baler and I'm thinking it was Ford or Oliver. What I'm getting at is if you posted it on Implement Alley and knew who made it originally you may have the possibility of a market for it because I was just over on there and someone is looking for parts to a Ford baler but anyway there were a lot of companies that had others make thier implements and painted them thier own colors. You may want to find the serial number plate and see if it says Made the in USA or Canada or whatever if it says Allis- Chalmers Milwaukee Wisc. you're screwed you'll have to hit the books and do some research and FYI a new 303 sold for $2200 even though it looks nice.

Its not a Ford or NH for sure and I'm sure AC did make their own baler as I have seen or used most brands over the years and none are like the AC.The early 303 and 304 weren't much of a baler in my opinion the later 443 and 444 were much improved.

TF, can't say I'm a specialist on forage and hay equipment and since I moved from our defunct AC dealership and moved to an established Hesston dealer that had a son-in-law who was a district manager with Hesston for over 10 years said quote now this was in 1981 that there hasn't been a major mfgr other than Deere making thier own hay and forage equipmnet for most of the time he was with Hesston so I kind of bristled up and said I'm not sure I can buy that so he took me out to the used lot and we covered some other mfgr's equipment and showed me. I was amazed. We also took on Kasten for thier forage boxes and found out they made boxes for Gehl, IH and Hesston. I do know that Badger was really hooked up with AC in the late sixties and early seventies. He did tell me there was a Canadien firm that specialized in hay and forage equipment that IH was thier biggest customer and I do know the 720 and 650 IH I liked so well was made in Canada. So anyway you've ran them and had to get parts for them so you know better than me and the only thing I know is after spending many hours on the wagon end of any baler my favorite part is the cab at my age :-> I've spent many days starting at around 11am and tossing the last bale at about dark 9pm with the tractor govenor kicking because its too tough and Oh by the way dad says we have five loads to mow away before it rains tonite we had to quit to milk slept good though with the rain coming down all night still had to do the chores at 5am though :-<

Good information. I think that it is a ford/new holland in reality. I have 63 watchers on it right now. Seems to be a market on ebay.

If anybody can tell from the pictures which make it is under the paint let me know.

Even though it sold for 2,200 new that was in 1963. I think that a 4x4 pickup was 2000$ also, but they are 20K+ today. You don"t think that this baler in excellent condition is worth 1200 do you?

Allis square balers never set the world on fire. Now, the issue is parts- back then, it was reliability- and no one was impressed with them. I sold a really good NH 269 with thrower two years ago for $600- If I would buy an old baler for $1200- it better be a JD or NH. Why did AC quit them? Poor sales.

I am sure. I agree. I personally bale with a 24T. Not the fastest, but throws good. This is a rare baler (the 303) indeed. I have never seen another in person. Probably more of a collectors item at this rate.

I can't say what it's worth it is what it is and just like many auctions I've been to it only takes one person who feels they've got to have it for whatever reason and that is when I back off. It sure is cheaper than buying new and there are a lot of horse people out there that just need a few bales a year and you can't buy a good lawn mower for that so I think you're good. I don't have any intentions of baling any hay anytime soon. It is winter time so it should be a good time to buy hay equipment just be patient. Good luck CT
