: : My 1953 WD won't start. I just got done rebuilding the engine : : and the rings are pretty tight, but the battery will turn it over : : a couple of times before discharging(the battery is old). : : When I took the spark plugs out, they were dry. The fuel lines are : : clean. Could it be that the battery wasnt turning it over enough : : to create enogh vacumm to get gas in the cylinders???: Well, if it's a distributer rather than a mag, an old battery won't give enough juice to the coil for a hot spark. However if your plugs are dry you must have a fuel problem. I'd personnally pull a couple plugs, squirt a teaspoon or so of gas in there put the plugs back and give it a try. If it fires and runs a little and dies then she isn't getting gas. It may even start and run then too, choke it some also. : Usually it is a fuel problem if the plugs are dry. ac, i assume that you have rebuilt and are familiear with the wd engine as far as shimming the main and rod bearings. if not, then youre "tight engine" could be more than a fuel problem. my experience in the past is that choking the carb good on initial starts works well without the need to prime the cylinders, although that may work great. also this comes to mind about this engine if youre not familiar with it. the offset rods must be positioned correctly or the wrist pins will wear the sides of the sleeves and cause ring failure quickly. if you know all this stuff, sorry to bore you with it more, but just in case, i thought id mention it. regards, randy : Dave
