Which would be better tractor to have, an Allis 7045 power shift or an IH 5288 or 5488.

There are a couple issues that have not been discussed yet. If you are buying an 88 series IH make sure it has the tranny update or be prepared to drop 8000 or so. The AC has a heavier front end than the early 88 series round front end. Also the AC will be cheaper to buy than an 88 series.

The IH is a better all around piece of equipment. There are certain things, like the powershift, that Allis might have which would be nice to have in certain situations. As for durability and comfort I think the IH is the best bet.

That"s not really a fair comparison. The 7045 is 20 and 45 horsepower less respectively. I"d give a nod to the powershift as the 50 series is only a two speed powershift, but I think when it comes to tough, it"s tough to beat the IH engine and transmission.

An 8050 would be a better comparison. Then the 8050 wins for sure in my book.
