I'm not sure this tractor is old enough to qualify for this board, but here goes... I'm looking at a AC 5040 in very nice shape. 50% Rubber, All the sheet metal is in good shape. Appears to have about 1800 hours. Leaking a little fuel at the fuel filter, but appears leak tight otherwise. 2WD, 1 remote hydraulic outlet. Any ideas on the value here in the midwest? Any opinions good or bad about this tractor?

If I get this tractor, I'll need to buy a separate loader. I'm looking at the usual list: Westendorfer, Great Bend, Woods, etc. Any opinions on those various loaders?

-Jeff

as a dealer i seen many of these tractors and the long tractors most of the people just bet the living s*** out of them and the hold up fine. As far as the hyd are concerned the main problem is the out door storage building people store them in you can't pump water. people are quick to complain about the short line tractor. The new for tractors have the same pumps on some them so it must not be to bad. here is an example of people not knowin what the are talking about they never made a gas 5040 allis chalmers.

Those are known for there hydraulic failures. A friend had one...once...said it took about $1000/year to keep the hydraulics working. I assume it is diesel. If it is, it will not be a ballanced engine and will shake you to death. It is a good size for a tractor, unfortunately it isn't a Fiat/AC success story. It's sister, the Oliver 1255 or 1265 (I can't remember right now) is in the same boat. Wish I had some better words for you, good luck.
