I was just given a 180 with 1500 hours and the engine in a basket..... the third time it has come apart. The tractor is like new; except for the engine. I've had similar luck with 2800-2900 industrial engines..... what current production engine is a likely candidate for a swap;even with a reduction in power? I'd rather not make a mess, but a practical change. Thanks

What on earth are you doing with those engines? Those engines have a reputation for living through immense abuse- we had a 180 that was dynoed at about 90 HP, and it lived happily like that for almost 15 years before we sold it. And a 180 with only 1500 hours? Has someone been playing with the meter?

Someone is not getting that eng together right cause they are a reliable eng, especially if not overfuelled. Cummins will repower just about anything-probably a 5.9L, they may have a kit to bolt in, not cheap by any means.
