I am looking at an old (earily 70's) 440AC, looks straight, no oil leaks, no 3pt, tires maybe 60%(duals)engine looks clean (cummins v-8 of-course) looks like about 4500hrs on tach. first of all are these engines any good, expensive to repair or? the axels/drive lines cheap or expensive if they would need repair, how about the planeteries? any info will help my decision thanks oly

we have a 440 2nd owner of it. Engine holds up ok, but not cheap to repair. Cant buy trans, or axel parts from Agco any longer. Needed hyd pump coupler and pump shaft this spring, I got last coupler in Agco inventory, shaft no longer available. same story with many more parts.....

Only about 1,000 AC 440's were ever made so parts are a problem. But, the 440 I think was really just a Steiger Bearcat. Steiger parts come from Case-IH that means going there for AC 440 parts!

yes they are Steiger built tractors but used different trans, and axels than Steigers. I have been that route all ready with mine.

I read that the axles are made by Dana-Spicer but later changed to Franklin. Dana-Spicer also made the clutch. The 10-speed transmission was made by Fuller.
