I have a Wd 45, I am thinking about adding my Hyd. possibilities by adding a pump, reservior, and valves. I am looking for ideas, I think I could drive the pump by a PTO driven pump, or one frof the drivebelt on the right middle of the tractor, or maybe one on the front of the engine which looks hard to hook up to the front of the pully. I am wondering if it is worth all of the work. any other ideas to update this tractor to a more modern Hyd. system. Other than this it is a great tractor but sometines I would like some more Hyd. Thank you for any infomation. Have a happy new year.

Dennis, Ihave a friend that put a small (about the size of a softball) pump on an Allis B. He put it of the left side of the engine above the generator and just put a longer belt on the tractor. Then he put a small(2-3 gallon) tank and valve assembly, on a bracket, to the right of te steering wheel. Then he constructed a belly grader blade that has 3-3"x16"-18" cylinders. He can angle it either direction, and can tilt to bot sides. The reason he used 3" cylinders was that the pump put out to much volume, ad would have been to fast for 2" ones. This little pump will lift the entire tractor of the ground. So, to make a long story short, with a small pump, bracket, tank and valve set up, you make a system that will do just about anything you want it to, and everything he did can be unbolted in a matter of a couple of hours.

Dennis:
I put a 6gpm pump off an old combine on the fron of mine and removed the original pump. The pump mounts on a plate attached to an piece of 2" angle spanning the two frame rails. I faced the front of the crank pulley and made a drive plate with a lovejoy coupling to attach the pump drive to handle misalignments. I had to remove the hand crank to make room, besides I didn't need it anymore...

I used the original reservoir and covered the hole where the original pump mounted with a plate with suction and return line fittings threaded in.

I added a separate control valve with a single acting spool for the lift and a dual acting spool for implement cylinders. I mounted these on a bracket from the frame above the right fender.

All of the pieces except the lovejoy flex coupling and a few new hoses were salvaged from an old Massey 300 combine and my scrap metal pile.

I also had to take the header cylinders and fit them to the tractor lift since the new pump couldn't develop 3000 psi and I couldn't lift my snow blower or tiller.

It turned out to be a bit of work, but being able to use the hydraulics and foot clutch at the same time is worth it.

I use the tractor year round so utility and dependability are a must.

Dennis, I added a three position valve to my 45.When the new valve is at the front position I can operate my loader and hold the lift arms up,in the center pos. I can run a remote cyl,in the rear pos.I oper the lift arms. This works great for plowing snow as I have a homemade straight blade on the loader and a converted three pt blade on the back.Having the blade on back helps with traction for pushing thru drifts. The rear blade works great for light snow and cleaning up after dozing. ct

I have a WD and added a front mounted hydraulic pump for my loader. I was not overly complicated. I honed the front crank pulley, then braised in a collar. Then I added a piece of stock about 3 inches long. I attached a collar with rubber inserts to take up any none trueness in rotation. I then ran the stock thru the hand crank. Then I simply welded a bracket to mount the pump. It took about two half days to do the whole job. I have pictures but no scanner to put them up on the web.

I have a WD45 diesel converted to 6 cylinder
gas that I put a double acting 2 spool valve onto.
I ran a line from the romote hook up to the input
side of the 2 spool valve the ran a line from the output side of the valve back to where you check
the oil for the hydraulic system. Then to operate
shove the hydraulic lever tothe raised position
and operate with the lever on the new valve it
works good enough to operate a New Holland round
baler.

I would like some details on what 6 cylinder gas engine you installed, and what you had to do.

I used a 262 AC combine engine. I left the combine
governer on which made the job easier but made
the throttle set up harder. I have another one
I'm going to put in a WD45 diesel. Will probably
use the front of a Cockshutt 30 which will give
me front mounts and governor that will hook to
the AC linkage easily.Have to pull out the cam
to do this though.also you have to notch the frame for the oil filter. the 230 or 262 will work. Also you can put a 290 cu inch diesel in
these tractors but thats another story.
