It is my understanding that the early 190s
had some rear end troubles that were corrected
in the later models...how do u tell the difference?
What years were 190s made?
Are all 190s "XT"s? What does "XT" mean?
Is the 200 a better tractor?

How do these models compare with the newer
7020, 7030, etc.?
Which would be best to acquire?

Thanks for your input!

Stay away from the maroon bellies, get a black belly. Then black bellies look better, and the marroon bellies had problems....

Seeing as how no one answered the 7000 series question, I will. The 7000 uses the same 301 turbocharged engine but the trans. was much more dependable,(this was a great model). The 7010,7020 used higher hp 301 engines with a six speed power shift( the trans. pumps are real problems). The 7030,7045,7060 & 7080 used the 426 turbocharged beast with powershift tranny's. If you want something like a 190 or 200 go with a 7000. You can play with it to get more HP.

You can tell the difference between the light and heavy transmissions by the size of the rear axle. The light transmission has a relatively small diameter axle.
200's were basically the same as an XT. The hydraulic pump was different, the three point lifted more, and the final drive gears, etc., were heavier.

The 190's were made beetwen 64'-to 72' although only 23 were made in January, 73' in fact. XT doesn't really stand for anything but the XT models horsepower is 93 PTO instead of a regular 190's 77 PTO horse.

I thought the XT stood for turbo charged diesel. All the straight 190's I have ever seen are gassers, did they ever make a 190 diesel? Or for that matter a 190XT gas?

Yeah we've got a straight 190 Diesel. I'm thinking of acquireing a 190 XT Series 3. One thing on the 190's, is that if you are thinking of buying one, there are two dipsticks on the platform. Make sure on isn't lower than the other. If they are, there is a small seal in the rearend out, they are very cheap, but to put em in, you have to split the tractor in the middle, and then split the rearend in half.

I have several Allis Chalmers books and they all indicate XT does not stand for anything in particular.
Yes there were 190 and 190XT gas, diesel, and LP gas models. I own a 190 diesel. It's a helluva tractor. My neighbor had an XT gas....now that was another story.
