I have a D15 & D14 with a bad 3rd gear, I took the 15 apart and took the gear to a machine shop to rebuild the teeth that where broke was this the right thing to do? Is there a better way before I start on the 14? Thanks

Don"t use used or repaired gears as you can not always tell if they are good on these D14 D15 transmissions. Your best bet in the long run is to buy new. You also need to change the reverse idler ( if I recall). These gears are not as high as they used to be from allis and are also available aftermarket. Don't buy from the first one that contacts you on the net. Get a ac not I T book (service manuel) If you need more info I will look further.

After looking in my books, you really need only a few pages of AC and IT book. I can help you out if you don't have them. AC book shows important info about different widths of gears depending on sn of tractor. All of these parts must match. Also have info on a supplier.

jr email me with your address and I can give you the numbers of some suppliers and gear numbers and different widths and combinations that are necessary to fix your tractor properly.

I would be interested on info of a supplier who has some knowledge of these parts. I'm having trouble with tractor dealers in my area it's like they don't want to mess with the old tractors

jr.; You might check with some tractor salvage dealers in your area. You can probably find the gears there. Remember to replace gears in pairs, since a broken gear probably did damage to its partner. Also since gear ratios differ from one tractor to the next this insures the transmission will still run quietly after repaired. There are also a number of parts outlets on the web, you can also try them. Hope this helps J.L.
