I've got a 190 Allis that jumps out of gear. 5th&6th when I pull the throttle back and 7th&8th under power. Is there any quick fix or do gears need replacing?

oh boy.. the only thing to try is moving the detent grooves to let the 3-4th shift collar go in deeper. Baring a loose fork, to fix it right you will need input 4th gear, third gear and shift collar. Look close at the clearance between the sleeve to pinion shaft and gear to sleeve on third gear. If your pinion shaft is worn it will happen again soon. Fix it right if you go in. Also we set the end play to -0- with correct snap ring (s)on main shaft. Splitting the tractor, removing the tires/axles/bullgears/ring/pinion/PD clutch is all involved. Tighten up the lower shaft while you are there as well as replacing all seals upper and lower PTO shaft seals. When through with the repairs shift the unit in 3d and 4th and then push farther to see if you can shift deeper into gear. If so weld and grind detents so as to use ALL the shifter splines and remember this unit has no syncros. Treat it that way as anyone who grinds the gears hastens the demise of any trans.
