I am looking for a general purpose tractor to use around my place. I have found an AC Model C for sale. Your opinions? I would like to have something I can use a blade on to grade my drive, etc. Price for these? Thanks!

All the little Allis--B, C, CA--are great general duty tractors. A factory scraper blade was never made for the C, so those that exist to fit its factory hitch are generally homemade. Unless the seller also has C implements, putting on a 3-pt conversion will open you up to a wider selection of equipment to use. However, both the B and C are light on the front end when you put a heavy drag load on the rear; weights are real helpful for keeping all four paws on the ground. The B, C, and CA all could be fitted with engine-mounted side weights, and the B also had a weight that could fit on the front axle (pretty rare to find now). The original engine-mounted side weights are not as easy to find as rear wheel weights but they are out there. I'd prefer a CA to a B or C: stronger, better balanced, and easier to find snap-coupler equipment.
In the mid-Atlantic, good running B and C tractors with decent tin and tires (not floozy show tractors) fetch 800-1200; comparable condition CA's go 1200-1800.

A C is a great little tractor. We own a '47 that we've restored most of the way. It was running great but we are finishing a restoration so my son can show it. It's all original and hasn't been chopped up. We added a three point conversion to it and use it for everything around our farm. It won't work a big palce but is great for blade work, mowing and such. They are very enjoyable tractors. I've seen them run from $1000.00 to $4000.00 around our part of Michigan. One nice thing is you can convince your wife to get one cuz she can cuddle with you while you work.... gotta love that big seat!

Is a three point conversion a good choice? Is it easy to do, and if so, does it fit correctly without much welding, etc.?

The C& D hitch fits perfectly with no welding at all.

Tim- The 3pt conversion can be done without easily. . there are a couple of different manufacturers out there. .

I personally recommend C&D hitches. . they are great to work with, very helpful & I have one of his kits for my AC D-17
