A QUESTION???

First time on the Allis board (but I do have a friend who has a nice little model B). Anyways, I bought a book yesterday on Allis-Chalmers tractors and I noticed on some of the models, there seemed to be a "straight pipe" (no muffler) but the end of the pipe was flattened, almost like the end of a vacumn cleaner hose attachment for getting into tight places). Anyone know why this was done? I guess there would be less chance for rain getting in but I doubt that's the reason. Anybody know???

My 39 WC has dual fuel manifold and while working on it I flattened the end of the pipe. By doing this it must have slightly increased the exhaust back pressure and the tractor ran noticably smoother. As for repelling rain , it doesn't. Chuck

My AC Data Book says that certain B's had a pipe with no muffler and my parts book shows a flattened pipe in place of a muffler.

Early WCs had straight pipes, and my WD operators manual shows a picture of the duel fuel engine that shows a straight pipe and along side of it it shows a muffler on the straight gas version.

The B's & C's with flattened exhaust pipes have the muffler under the hood.
