I've just purchased a Woods L59 mower for my '38 AC"B". I now have a PTO to pulley problem. My PTO is 1-1/8" tapered and the pulley is 1-1/4" ID. I heard you can shim or weld, or get the replacment shaft. Can anyone who might know the best way to mate these two write back?
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
I have a Woods L59 on my B and the drive sheave goes on the tapered belt pully shaft of the side of the housing. It doesn't go on the pto shaft.

Others have commented on the pto splined shaft. What you are talking about is the tapered PULLY shaft. The early B's had a smaller shaft, I would contact woods to see if they have a different pully. Otherwise I would change to a pully shaft from a later tractor. shimming sounds messy to me as it woumd be diffivult to keep it from wobbling. Good luck.

Dan,
There are adapters available to increase the diameter of your PTO shaft to 1-3/8". What you most likely need is the style that slips over the shaft like a sleeve and doesen't increase the shaft length. They should be available at farm stores like Tractor Supply co. or Farm and Fleet for just a few bucks.

I would suggest a 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 over-running clutch adapter. I have one for my 1950 A-C Model B with 1 1/8 inch PTO. It hooks right up to my Landpride 5 foot finish mower with 1 1/4 inch drive shaft.

Good Luck.

Have you asked the Woods factory people about your problem? They must have seen this before. Also the Force America folks have all kinds of PTO adapters.
