I have a chance to buy the above described tractor for $300. The oil pump has to be primed if it sits a while. This is not a problem. I am seeking a tractor to help clear my 5 acres of light brush. What are my options for mounting a bush hog or mower on this tractor. I understand the pto shaft is an odd size but there are adaptors available with over-running clutches in them. Also, it steers backwards from having been converted from narrow to wide front end. There is a parts tractor (and implements???) available for free. I am told the steering box off of this tractor will correct the steering issue. Sorry this is so long but I dont' want to get into a tractor that will need a lot of conversion to clear some brush. Are there front blades available for this type???

Thank to everyone for all the great info. I'll give it some thought and let you all know how it turns out. I plan to locate a 3 or 4 foot bushog somewhere and try to get it mounted. For 3 bills I probably won't pass it up...
Nolan said to prime the oil system by breaking the line loose at the filter and pump it full with a pump can. I found some excellent info on correcting this probem and some diagrams. I also have to see if the parts steering box will correct the backwards steering. The tractor has a bench seat but I suspect it is a c with the front end converted over. I'll try to take some pics and post them if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the priming info. I was going to try that, but I figured it'd be harder than that...

Maybe a dumb question, but you found some good information where?

Here's a couple of pics of mine:

I recently "Inherited" a Model B. I got it running but it had no oil pressure. How does one prime the pump?

TIA
John

mike - for that money i would buy it but as has been said - it's not all that strong of a tractor . i just traded mine in ( also bought to clear brush ) on a skidsteer cause it just wouldn't do it . mine had a loader & a blade!

I saw a guy on the yesterday tractor website with a front mounted blade. It is possible but it was probably a custom job. $300 sounds good.

Buy It. The B was a wide front end, not narrow. Either its a C with a B wide front, or its been switched around a couple times. Look at the steering box. If the lever points up it is off a C. If the lever points down it is off a B. Maybe someone just switched the steering boxes?? You can put a rear mower and run off the PTO, their oare conversions, or you can buy a belly mower and run off the rear pully. Can buy rear blades or addapt a front blade. Does it have hydraulics (single hose on the back) You can use this a a simple lift for a belly mower, and conversions for a rear lift.

It sounds like a great deal but be sure about the job you plan to use it for. Don't get me wrong the B is a great tractor I own 2 myself. But it is very light and under powered to run a bush hog type mower. I run a Woods 6ft. belly mower to maintain a couple acres of permanent plantings and it works extremely well for that. For rough mowing I have a Ford 850 (about 45hp)and a 5ft bush hog type mower. This mower/hp combination seems to work well together untill you need to use reverse while running at PTO speed and that is just way too fast. I hope this will help with your decision. Remember it's a good tractor when used within it's limits. Chuck
